Nothing to see here folks, it was all smoke and mirrors again.

Every week, the world is coming to an end only this time no one believed it.

Have a nice day.

PostSubject: Re: Sequestration!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Tue Mar 05, 2013 8:24 pm

Well, I thought I'd share this. A friend shared the following on facebook today & notice the responses listed below the original post.

8 hours ago ยท

I'm thankful for my job as I had to out process a temporary employee who's job is ending early this Friday and met with another 3 employees today who's job is ending due to lack of funds all because of Sequestration.

The following are all separate responses to the above post, but I removed all names.

Me too. We all get three day weekends...

So I guess it was the big deal Obama made it out to be after all?

Peeps making fun as if no one was affected and stuff.

Yep, it's real. With the cutbacks in line with dept of defense, everything will be scaled down. Let's keep safe :o)

I really do feel for you folks in personnel right now.

I HATE this. Shayne and I will make it but there are folks who live pay check to paycheck who will be seriously impacted. I still remember those days.

I think this just stinks! Political party agenda crap getting in the way of of the needs of the American people and our country's defense is unacceptable! Regardless of party affiliation everyone should start bombarding their congressmen and senators with calls and emails that if terms aren't agreed on ASAP they will be losing their seat next election. In my opinion all politicians are self serving, moral bankrupt sold out damned souls if they weren't that way when they got in office it doesn't take long for them to become corrupt to the bone.

Most people not affiliated with the government do not have a clue as to what is going on or the impact. I have to admit that the small part of me looks forward to people actually feeling the impact of sequestration. I believe at least one national park has announced scaled back hours.

I believe that too.

I just wish more people had voted and voted the incumbents out.

God Bless you! We all know that is not an easy thing to do!!!

Where is the dislike button! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Its sad...

Hazards of our jobs.

I find it hard to believe that is only passed last Friday and people are already fired? Sequestration was not a cut of funding, it was a reduction of promised spending. More like you planned for a $2000 vacation but ended up spending only $1500. I could see not hiring any one new, but I don't see how any one would be fired so quickly.

It would be a good excuse to cut personnel to save money for a company though.

No I can't and no, you didn't.

Let me revamp my example. Sequestration is a 2% cut of future budgets. So my $2000 vacation would actually be cut to $1,960.

TSA just spent $50 million on new uniforms. Sounds like a great use of their budget.

I have watched my daughter struggle through getting anything accomplished in the NAVY, from the first piece of paperwork to accessing the GI Bill every semester in college, walking each person in the process, all of whom are PAID to do these steps without her assistance, through each and every step, raising hell the whole way until what she needed done was done. If I were not convinced before, I'm convinced now that we have a large conglomeration of total boneheads spending our country's funds.

It will always be the little guys that get screwed when funds are cut. You won't see upper level cutting jobs. The hit will always, always, always be taken by bottom rung of the ladder.

In line with that, you can raise minimum wage all day and it won't make a bit of difference because prices will rise to meet the cost of paying employees more, and effectively defeat what was intended to help minimum wage workers. Rich continue to get rich and conservatives continue to believe the complete BS that taxing the rich will leave us all jobless. Well, guess what? It sucks now. So let's give it a whirl and see. That will never happen of course because those who could tax the rich were paid for by the rich and will never risk pissing off the rich.

Being a Navy brat, I understand your pain. Try to get treatment for a father who has reacted to lithium that was prescribed by the VA to treat his depression which caused him to go manic and drive around the country. He ended up in a restroom in Tennessee unconscious.
So yes, the military sucks. It sucked 50 years ago and it still sucks.

Want to tax all the rich people? Go ahead. You will get about 1.3 trillion if you take all their wealth on paper, (not real money), then you will only have a 15T debt for the country. It will always be the little guy because that is the way it works, no matter who is in charge. Did Congress or Obama take a pay cut? No.

You are right about raising minimum wage, a dumb idea. Raise it a dollar and watch milk go up 50 cents. Blame who ever makes you feel better. It's good to vent.

I personally like to shoot at targets of Obama, but that's just me. affraid Wink

Best of luck to your daughter. Perseverance is the key. it usually takes 5 times as long to get something done.

I expect the rich to pay the same percentage per dollar made as any other legal citizen of the US. Just as national debt grows exponentially, so does the wealth of the rich & therefore the taxes they would pay.

I do agree that someone should be jailed or shot for many years of tax evasion, but we are as much to blame for allowing it as are the leaders we vote into office. People have been brainwashed into believing that it is acceptable, even necessary, to allow the rich to get away with this failure to pay taxes because they have the money to own a corporation. It's completely illogical.

It kills me how the government will come after my pennies in a heartbeat if I fail to pay my taxes, but the rich get away with not paying tax on each dollar made through loopholes, tax breaks, etc. they receive from our leaders. We made tax evasion legal, but only for the rich.

Oh, no, I take that back...legal for the rich and anyone who can stand living in the poverty cycle of government housing/assistance. It's a crazy mess.

The rich has always controlled the ones who make the laws, They are the one's who can afford it.
They control the middle class because by instilling fear by making us think they are on our side. Really
look at how they have so many thinking that if taxes are raised it is going to be taking away from
all of the working people's pocketbook when in reality how many on this forum makes More Than the $400,000.00
Obama is after? How many here makes $300,000.00 a year? How many of us makes $200,000.00 a year? or even $100K?
How many here would be willing to pay at the same rate as you are now if you were in these income brackets?
Now, How many people do you think has their head in the sand thinking it is going to affect you?
The rich power hungry politicians has brainwashed so many by instilling fear in the common person.
If more people were actually aware of how this is working these politicians would be more accountable for their actions!

The tax rates are not the problem, it's all the rules and regulations that allow the rich to keep their money. It all depends on how the money is made, how it is spent and when it is held. Let's use Warren buffet. His famous claim of he paid less taxes than his secretary is true because he only draws a $100,00 dollar salary per year, by his own choice. So he pays taxes on that but not on the mass bulk of his fortune which is held in bonds and stocks.
As long as he does not sell or trade that money, he pays no taxes. He, like all the wealthy, use off shore accounts that have no taxes (including all the politicians complaining about paying 'their fair share'), or they use write offs for a fake 'failed' adventure to offset gains. So it's not the rates, it's the 1000's of loopholes. Not one congressman has even tried to tackle those, even though that is the Republican talking point.

This is a good reason to opt for a flat tax. Then there are no loopholes, there are no ways to hide the money and it would be fair across the board. That idea has gotten zero support because it will do exactly what it says, so not one government employee wants that.

BTW, if Buffet pays less tax at a salary of $100,00, what does he pay that secretary?

There is plenty of fraud on the other end of the spectrum that needs addressed as well. This all needs done in a balanced fashion.

So I assume you just skipped my posts?

I would bet that Ubu comes close to that $100,00 or more. My big pay for half a year at Wally World was $5000. So, if hubby was not drawing retirement, we would be poverty level ground floor.

Hating the wealthy is not my thing. The shrink charges $125 for a 20 minute session. Would I want to change places? No. He worked many years to get his degree and he has to be responsible for people's lives on a daily basis. The responsibility of the job is enormous. He has nice perks but the cost to his family in time and stress is not a fair trade to me.

So pick what you want to hate.

If you are talking to me since I was the last poster, I just simply didn't agree with your point of view, so that was why I mentioned what they said. No intention of ignoring you...yep, Walmart does pay much for sure.

I totally agree with you about a flat tax, lmm...both that it's the best solution and that it will never happen. *sob*

I don't hate the wealthy. I hate paying taxes on every dollar I make while the wealthy do not pay taxes on every dollar they make. By dollar made, I mean actual dollars made, not pseudo paychecks.

For instance, we had a small business. Our paychecks were our money and the profit on the business was our money to use however we saw fit. It was all profit dollars made by us & used by us, whether it came to us via a paycheck or via profit on the business, whether is resided in our personal bank account or our business bank account.

I will say a perk for a small business is calling just about anything a business expense, as long as some amount of work for the business was done in the process. However, small businesses do not get to avoid paying taxes, because we don't have enough money/power to buy tax evasion loopholes from the government. With city, county, state and government tax, it's a wonder any small business survives. My husband could just travel THROUGH a country, not sell a thing there, and the freakin' county would try to get money out of us. Mad

Anyhoo, we all have our own opinions and thankfully still have the right to speak them in this country. No worries, mate. Kitty

I don't see how a small business survives either. The tax code really needs to be completely redone but I doubt that will ever happen under any administration.

If it was made simple and easy, then there would be no need for the IRS, and all those people would loose their jobs. I guess the worst part of economics is the goal is to do more with less so there is a profit because if there is no profit, why bother? However, by the very nature of profitability, you are needing less and less workers. So either the workers are laid off, or, they must be retrained for another position. At this point of the economy, retraining would be the most logical as jobs available are becoming more and more specific. No longer do we need burger fryers, we need the workers who make the fryer.

It is a mess. I have no idea who can make any changes that would be beneficial to the economy as a whole.

And we are good. I know Synch is a liberal so I didn't expect her to agree with me, but I thought she might give a counter point. Giggle
