I totally agree about Neil Young. Should have been put to sleep years ago. Another one I can't stand was John Denver. I started out as a John denver fan, but came to despise him because of his ignorance. After his role in the movie Oh God, he went on a high speed trip to the idiot farm. He calls up Jaques Cousteau and says " Hey, I'm John Denver I want a job on the Calypso."
Jaques replied, "I'm sorry John. The Calypso is a research vessel and you are just a singer of songs. You are too stupid to work on the Calypso."
So John calls up NASA, and says, "Hey I'm John Denver. Can I ride on the space shuttle?" NASA said, "No John. Only astronauts are qualified to ride the shuttle. You are just a singer of songs, and too stupid to be an astronaut."
Then, he calls up the Soviet Union and says, " Hey, I'm John Denver. Can I ride on your space shuttle? I have lots of money." The Soviet Union replied, "Sorry comrad. Only cosmonauts from our glorious Union are qualified to ride on our space shuttle. We have researched your background and have found you are just a singer of songs, and too stupid to be a cosmonaut. Then John decides he wants to fly his own plane but he never qualifies for a pilots license. The FAA told him," Sorry John. You're too stupid to fly your own plane."
So, out of desperation, John decides to get himself an ultra-light aircraft which doesn't require a pilots license. His friends told him, "john, this is a bad idea. You know you are too stupid to fly." Their protests fell on deaf ears, however, and he flew anyway. He got up a few thousand feet and ran out of gas, and crashed to his death. He had forgotten to fuel his plane.
I had a poster one time that I got out of a National Lampoon magazine. On one side was a picture of Euell Gibbons laying dead beside a bunch of mushrooms and pine cones, and the other side had John Denver getting his eyes clawed out by an American Eagle. Very Happy

Uh-oh, don't throw anything at me blue, but I like John Denver's songs. Now, I generally don't care to know about a an artist's life and don't know much about JD, but his voice is pure and his songs are beautifully written.

I am a moody listener. I don't have one genre that wins out...just depends on what I'm in the mood to hear.

If you asked me one of those 'if stranded on a desert island' questions, I could come closer to picking one type of voice rather than one type of music & even then I'd get tired of it after a while. My favorite singers' voices have edge, rhythm, growl, not trained but singing from deep inside like they mean it...usually shows up in blues, funk, rock, country.

Forgive the commercial intro on this video, but this song is a good example of singing about what you know, from deep inside. His voice is more smooth, but the beat brings the rhythm/growl. He gets a little edgy toward the end. It also changed my mind about the rebuilding of New Orleans...the one line "'cause you don't know nothin' about this" sung from his hurt and anger touched me & I thought "You know what? You're right. I don't.".

I don't like it that Christian music is split off unto itself because it's so varied. I would categorize this song as rock myself...the person who wrote it and sings it just happens to be a Christian...but this came out this year & I love it.

OK Joy. If you promise to keep this just between you and me I'll admit I was envious of his talent. I do like Broussard too.
And just for the record, even if at some point I do disagree with you.....I would never throw anything at you.

Rose petals maybe. Laughing

Add me to the Neil Young list........I agree he's a David Crosby wantabe LOL.

A lady ask me last week, "what music do you enjoy"......I told her it would be easier to tell her what I do not enjoy, there's not a lot on that list. Although Ke$ha would be at the top of the list...........

With kiddies in the house I am exposed to more of the current fads then I probably should be Razz , but I am finding some that I really can get into. Shontelle and Fergy each have a song out that I really like. I like Katy Perry's voice on E. T., but crinch at Kanye's.....

Bruno Mars is real enjoyable and I love Nelly's new song......

Did anyone catch Eric Clapton's Crossroad's festival on PBS last night????? It was pretty smokin'

Fergie... ally the black eyed peas... boom boom pow is a great tune.. " Beats so big i'm steppin on leprechauns..."
i don't even know what that means but it's awsome.

and i love katy perry.. shakira is a goddess, musically and physically... and yeah.. i like bruno mars.. awsome smoooooth voice. i think the idea behind his song 'grenade' is kinda goofy... ' i'd throw my self on a grenade for you, but you won't do the same..." well duh.. she doesn't like you.. of course she wouldn't, silly person. but i love the song.

i don't know shontelle.. but i do know nicky minaj.. and she's on the list with kesha.
i love me some Ludacris and snoop dogg is so smooth it's hard to not like him. and of course Dre. and eminem.
there's a new group out there, discovered by chad kroeger from nickelback, ( also a fav) called my darkest days.. the video has them and chad and Luda and zack wylde on solo guitar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdaKwt5cHEk&feature=relmfu&oref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dc2Fnet0y9Ts&has_verified=1

there's also a band form canada called ' protest the hero'. most people in here prolly won't liek them, because they are hard and vicious, but if you decide to listen to them, even if you don't liek the music, pay attention to the sheer talent of these kids.. they are astounding musicians, even if you don't care for the music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tREg7dG0AbQ

of course Ozzy, and Ted, and van halen. alison krauss is sick with talent. her duets with robert plant are killer, and her song whiskey lullabye with brad paisley is haunting....
warning - the following two links are the most heart rending videos in music today. i can't watch either one of them without having to go watch Weird Al to cheer myself up afterwards. the wife weeps openly whenever i play them for her . she cusses me liek a dog but always watches every second.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qH4qyi1-Ys

speaking of Nelly.. have you all seen his song with tim mcgraw? it's a fantastic thing.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3htOCjafTc

now.. for those of you who watched both the whiskey lulabye and the rascal flats video's above....

I got a mandolin about a month ago and am learning a little bit(slowly) on it. I was grazing through youtube for mandolin lessons and ran up on this kid. Y'all may not like it but I think the lucky little devil is gifted. About five minutes and he doesn't miss a lick.

For those who don't play, heres Tommy playing two songs at the same time. No small feat. I think Chet was the first one to do it,though I may be wrong.

I was listening to Marc Broussard again today and ran across him singing on a radio show...just him and his guitar...good grief, he's crazy good...such a full sound for just a voice and a guitar.

Love the mandolin. I have a Gibson.....just don't play it anymore. All of my instruments are going through some serious neglect.

Have you heard Sierra?
