FIRST CHRISTMAS CARD

Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.
See the PC Police had taken away
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a ' Holiday'.
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-Pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-is-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS,
Not Happy Holiday!
Please, all Christians join together and
Wish everyone you meet
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Christ is The Reason' for the Christ-mas Season!

I would not go as far as the writer, but I do find it ironic when companies embrace other religions in the name of tolerance, making sure they don't offend those religions or exclude anyone while at the same time they exclude Christians. Gee, that's not offensive at all, guys...thanks for being so 'sensitive'...lol. You cannot describe your company as tolerant, inclusive, diverse, sensitive, etc. if you do this. If there were a holiday to honor such behavior, on that day we'd be wishing them "Happy Hypocrites Day!". tongue

Well, I'm not Christian, but I have no problem with Christmas trees and I love Christmas for the family time, nature's beauty, and so forth. I tell people Merry Christmas and mean it..maybe not how someone else might mean it, but I simply mean have a merry and wonderful Christmas whatever you happen to believe.

I think the point isn't as much that businesses shouldn't be allowed to celebrate Christmas as much as how nice it would be to not focus solely or mostly on Christian holidays since most places don't make a deal about other religion's holidays and put up their traditional items, but I agree that sometimes it is taken too far by Christians, businesses, and non-Christians alike. I don't have to celebrate the birth of Christ to enjoy Christmas, and many of the traditions are rooted in Paganism and other earlier religions anyway. I do though totally understand and respect that some people truly don't want to see them or wish others merry Christmas, so I guess this is a holiday where they are stuck with grinning and bearing it until new Year's. I don't see the point in fighting over who says what or whether pretty trees should be allowed to be up...what a waste of time and energy. I personally don't want a Nativity set in my yard, but we put up beautiful trees, deer, penguins, stars, and lights and we seriously enjoy them. We get a new lawn something each year right after Christmas on sale and use it the next year...lol. If a neighbor wants a Nativity set I say go for it and enjoy it.

If I didn't want a tree I just wouldn't buy one and would leave others to enjoy theirs, and if someone wishes me a Merry Christmas I am happy they wish me well. I don't like any group's beliefs stuck in my face (including my own views to an obnoxious length), but I think there is a time to pick your "battles" if you feel strongly about something, and telling people they shouldn't be enjoying pretty trees or wishing people well just doesn't seem productive to me. Tolerance isn't about fighting and winning our way, but about celebrating our diffferences as well as similarities in my view. Smile

I agree, Sync. It should never have been an issue in the first place. Just call it what it is...it's Christmas. You don't have to be a believer to call the holiday by it's given name. On the flip side, God isn't going to kick you out of the family if you call Halloween by it's given name. People who come up with these ideas should have less time. In the interest of peace, we should unload give them portions of our "to do" lists. What a Face

I don't know about the first Christmas card, but the first Mother's Day card was from Abel to his mother Eve. It read,"Mother I love you with all my heart, but it kills me the way you are raising Cane.
