I have to tell ya'll.........We have always supported St. Jude's. We make an annual donation through the office and we all work every now and again at some type of fundraiser. Wifey was a member of a philanthropic sorority whose primary purpose was the support of St. Judes.........But we really didn't understand the lengths they went to in taking care of the kids..........

Ross was real restless Sunday. He laughed at one point and said he wished he had a remote control helicopter to fly around the room. His mom told him that there was no way the hospital would let him have a remote control helicopter. His nurse looked at her and said, "Dear, if this baby wants a helicopter, go get him a helicopter. We are not going to tell these babies no"

So, they went and got him a helicopter.

Later on he wanted something to eat and they asked him what he wanted. He said that he really wished he had a ribeye steak. His mom told him that was not on the menu. Again, his nurse stepped in and said, "If we don't have a ribeye, we'll get him a ribeye if I have to drive to the grocery store myself."

She went on to say that there would be a baseball game and wheelchair races in the hallway later on that day. She explained that if it was in their power to grant a child's wish, it would be done.

Suffice to say that we are blowed away and our commitment to St. Judes is greater than it has ever been.

They are amazing! I knew a young couple who had pretty much nothing when my son was young. It was odd when she was pregnant because she hid it (married and had an apartment down the hall from us...no reason really to hide it) and she stopped going out, wasn't depressed really but didn't want anyone to see her. There was fear in her heart for some reason. Anyway, she had the baby and he was so pale from birth it was odd, and she was terrified all the time for some reason, but I always wondered if she knew something was wrong and didn't want to face it. He was always pale and bruised and I asked if he had seen the pediatrician. She finally took him and he was diagnosed with leukemia that day. They (the ped, not her), sent him to St. Jude's that day, and St. Jude's paid for everything. Her boy recovered and as far as I know (lost contact) from a few years ago hadn't relapsed. They said it was pretty far along and they still saved him despite his mother trying to hide him even there and his advanced situation. They were wonderful to them and amazing since at that time his type of disease was hard to cure.

I agree the staff at St. Jude's will do anything they can for kids, and I am so glad Ross is there. It's nice to know they make sure they are still kids and take such good care of them there Very Happy

This family has nothing either Frog Legs.........

No Insurance, no vacation time etc...........

But they do have a close knit family that has come together!

The mom has been a temporary employee of the U. S. Postal Service for about 10 years now. Working 38 hours a week............

We all think it's just "big business" that does this to their employees, but here is the Federal Government doing the same thing...........

Think I'll sic Props on them! Giggle

I agree. They have always been my main charity. Not only do you never know when someone in your own family will need their services, but EVERY child that needs them.....no boundaries....... deserves the care that St. Jude provides.

Ubu, other than prayers, is there anything we can do for the family??

Is there a financial burden, Ubu, or is everything paid for right now? We don't have much but we can share what we have. Let us know if someone starts a fund for them and I will pass the word on FB.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the offers, but we have a HUUUUUGGGE family and everyone has pitched in to the point that I think we have them covered.

They have two other children and wifey and I have offered to let them stay with us this summer. If so, I'll need some happy thoughts and prayers about coping with a house full of teenagers. Giggle

I have two 8 year olds. I really do have earplugs. They were for swimming, but I discovered that I can't hear Electric Company right behind me on tv while I work (their dad is home and can hear them) with them in. I just thought of that today, and I will be happy to share with you!!! Giggle I'm sure you will have no trouble getting offers of whiskey, so you should be set Giggle

Good morning, gus and all. Mornin

Good to hear, Ubu...large families are a blessing for many reasons, but helping each other in tough times is definitely at the top of the list. The teens will enjoy staying at your house...the pool and animals should help keep them distracted. If they get too rowdy, you can get Sassy to come over all official in uniform and tell them to keep it down.

Giggle

We could have an old folks jam session for their entertainment...not that we'd be funny. We'd be fabulous, of course, but just saying that IF they found it humorous, I'll take a laugh any way I can get it. Very Happy

Just know we are here if y'all need anything. Please don't hesitate to ask. Smile

LOL, they would be tough on us.........their dad is one of the best guitar pickers I have ever heard. He's pretty well known in the Shoals music scene even though he doesn't play professionally anymore.............

In other words.......they may take those ear plugs for themselves Crackingup Crackingup Crackingup Crackingup Crackingup

Good morning everybody.

I regularly donate to St. Jude's, and have done the "go to jail for St. Jude's" ordeal. I raised my $1500.00 ' bail money" in advance, so I only had to have my picture taken and turn over the funds before I was able to go free. I left the local Sheriff with a telephone book and a phone, begging for donations. I heard it took him about six hours to make "bail".

Hope everybody has a great day.
